The northern suburbs or “The North Shore” are Chicago’s most affluent. Straight north of the City, these suburbs are similar to one another, though each has its own distinctive flavor.
Tree-lined streets in these suburbs wind around large, stately, mansions, perfectly manicured lawns, and charming town squares. The beaches aren’t the largest in the world, but they are well maintained, and the park districts on the North Shore are some of the finest (and best funded) in the Chicago area.
The Botanical Gardens are on the North Shore, as well as several nature sanctuaries. The downtown areas of these beautiful northern suburbs are centered around the Metra stations, which are a quick, convenient way to get downtown. The North Shore also is home to some of the finest school districts in the country.
