The Magnificent Mile/Near North Side area is found east from the Lakefront to State Street south from North Avenue to the Chicago River. It is home to the Art Institute of Chicago, Grant Park, the Museum Campus, Northwestern University’s hospital campus, the Loyola University Law School, Navy Pier, and of course the Magnificent Mile itself. It features some of the city’s (and the world’s) finest hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments.

Everything from Tiffany’s to the Disney Store is found on this beautiful thoroughfare. And it truly is beautiful. Besides the immaculately attended flowerbeds lining the sidewalks, the “Mag Mile” is regularly used as a sculpture garden full of fun and interesting pieces created by local artists. The Magnificent Mile and all it offers should definitely be one of the first stops of any trip to Chicago.

The Gold Coast, located north from Chicago Avenue to North Avenue and east from the Lakefront to LaSalle Street, is the residential area adjacent to the Magnificent Mile. The Gold Coast is one of the oldest areas in Chicago, and is the city’s wealthiest. It boasts the famed “Rush and Division Street” district, which houses some of the most popular bars, restaurants, and upscale-shopping in the city.

The Gold Coast is also home to the Newberry Library, an independent research library concentrating in the humanities, with an active educational and cultural presence in Chicago. It houses an extensive non-circulating collection of rare books, maps, and manuscripts.
