The Lakeview/Wrigleyville are is directly north of Lincoln Park, four miles north of the Loop. This is definitely one of the “most fun” areas of Chicago, boasting the highest concentration of 24 to 34 year-olds in the country. The Clark, Belmont and Broadway shopping districts contain a wide variety of stores that accommodate all needs.
The restaurants and bars cater to all tastes and are plentiful. East Lakeview includes the neighborhood known as “Boys Town.” This is Chicago’s gay district, and the alternative lifestyle is strongly embraced by the area’s inhabitants and businesses.
West Lakeview stretches west from Sheffield to Ashland Avenue and north from Diversey to Addison. Perhaps the hottest section of West Lakeview is the stretch of Southport from Diversey north to Irving Park. Over the past few years, this area has become the refuge of Lincoln Park expatriates who fled the congestion and high prices that plague Lincoln Park. West Lakeview has managed to retain its neighborhood charm while providing easy access to Lincoln Park, East Lakeview and Wrigleyville. This area is thickly covered with interesting restaurants, fashion-savvy shops, and more than a few neighborhood bars.
As the name suggests, “Wrigleyville” is the area immediately surrounding Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. This charming neighborhood’s understood boundaries are Addison Avenue along the south, Irving Park Road to the north, and west from the lakefront to Ashland Avenue. Wrigleyville is the home of countless bars and shops, pleasing everyone from post-game nightcappers to modern-day punks. Restaurants can be found in every flavor and degree, from chic Ethiopian to Chicago-style dogs and Old Style.
Shoppers will find vintage roaring-20s dresses next door to biker jackets, health spas down the street from tattoo parlors, and gay clubs around the corner from sports bars.
